Asteroid 2024 YR4

Every so often the sky sends us a messenger, and 2024 YR4 arrived as one of the more sobering ones: a stony near-Earth asteroid roughly forty to ninety metres across, spotted by the ATLAS survey from its Chilean station at Rio Hurtado on 27 December 2024, tumbling on its own quick nineteen-minute spin. For a few tense weeks between late January and February 2025 it carried an impact rating of three on the Torino scale, the second-highest ever recorded, with a peak probability above three percent for a possible strike on 22 December 2032, before further observation quietly dissolved that risk to effectively zero.

The event chart we cast for it wears a distinctly Saturnian character. With the Sun in Capricorn and Capricorn rising, this is the old-soul climber, the crocodile that waits, patient and reckoning with time itself: fittingly, the whole episode became a slow, disciplined test of our planetary defence machinery. The Sun sits in the eleventh house of the tribe and network, and how apt, for it summoned the United Nations-endorsed agencies and the world's great telescopes into one watchful circle. A cosmic reminder to respect the ticking clock, and to keep looking up.
