Clyde Tombaugh turned a farm boy's fascination with the night sky into one of the great discoveries of the twentieth century. His Sun sits in Aquarius, and this is the signature of a mind built for the stars: the sign of science, of futuristic and outside-the-box thinking, of the visionary who shines not on a solo throne but by contributing something to the whole of humanity. Aquarians are the ones who move us forward, and without them, I always say, we would still be back in the Bronze Age. Born on the fourth of February, 1906, in Streator, Illinois, he built his own telescopes from farm parts and mailed his careful drawings of Mars and Jupiter to Lowell Observatory, which hired him in 1929. His Moon in Gemini gave him the restless, curious, fact-hungry temperament that thrives on patient observation and detail. Using the painstaking blink-comparison method, comparing photographic plates for a single moving speck, he discovered Pluto on the eighteenth of February, 1930. He kept observing and teaching for decades, dying in 1997. A truly Aquarian soul who enlarged the family of the planets.
