James Cook

Captain James Cook was a man built to chart the uncharted, and his sky reads like a map of that mission. His Scorpio Sun sits in the tenth house, the very noon of the chart, the throne of career and public reputation: this is the most visible of solar seats, and it made a Yorkshire farm labourer's son into one of history's most consequential navigators. Scorpio gave him the deep, strategic, survival-minded nature to read danger from miles off; the tenth house gave him the ambition to climb, from merchant sailor to Royal Navy officer to commander of the Endeavour. Across three Pacific voyages between 1768 and 1779 he mapped New Zealand, the eastern coast of Australia and Hawaii with a precision that shaped exploration for a century.

His Aquarius Moon in the first house wore his purpose on his skin: the collective psyche, the mind fused with humanity's frontier, forever pushing past the known. A Capricorn Ascendant lent the stoic, boss-like mask of the patient old soul. He was killed in Hawaii in 1779, and his legacy remains contested for its violence toward Indigenous peoples and its part in empire; the chart describes the drive, not the harm it left behind.
