Louis Pasteur

Louis Pasteur, born on the twenty-seventh of December, 1822, in France, is one of the reasons so many of us are alive to read his name. A chemist and microbiologist, he uncovered the principles of vaccination, of microbial fermentation, and of the gentle heat-treatment of milk and wine we still call pasteurisation. He disproved spontaneous generation with his elegant flask experiments, helped found germ theory, and developed vaccines for rabies and anthrax that have saved millions.

His Sun in Capricorn shines through the old-soul climber, disciplined and dependable, driven to reach the highest rung of the ladder of reputation and lasting work. Placed in the third house of self-effort and the hands, it made him the tireless anti-lazy doer who solved with his fingers and his mind, resolving the optical asymmetry of crystals early in his career.
