Simón Bolívar

Simón Bolívar was born to be the sun in his own solar system, and history obliged him: a whole continent came to orbit the man they called El Libertador. His Leo Sun sat in its own domicile, the lion-king at full strength, the born leader whose charisma made rooms turn and armies follow. The universe could not have given him a better Sun for the task he set himself, for in Rome in 1805 he swore to end Spanish rule in the Americas, and then he did it, liberating what are now Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, and the nation that carries his name, Bolivia. A strong lion does not need to roar for attention, and Bolívar led with a generous, golden-hearted grandeur, though the same fixed Leo pride would isolate him at the end. His Gemini Moon gave him the restless, mental, quicksilver mind: the Enlightenment reader, the tireless writer of letters and constitutions, the strategist forever on the move across the Andes. Born in Caracas in 1783 into wealth yet orphaned young, widowed early, he poured that changeable brilliance into a single fixed cause. He died of tuberculosis in 1830, disillusioned, yet immortal.
