Wilfrid Voynich

Wilfrid Voynich was a survivor and a seeker, a man who turned danger and disappearance into a life spent chasing forgotten books. Born Michał Habdank-Wojnicz into Polish nobility in 1865, he trained as a chemist and pharmacist, then threw himself into revolutionary politics against the Russian tsar, an act that landed him in Siberian penal servitude. That he escaped, crossed a continent, and rebuilt himself in London under an assumed name tells you everything about his Scorpio Sun, the sign of death and rebirth, the Phoenix rising from the ashes. Scorpio shines through transformation, and Wilfrid kept dying to one self and being reborn into another: revolutionary, exile, then one of the world's great rare-book dealers. He had the Scorpio instinct for what lay hidden, an eye for buried treasure, which is how he found the strange, undeciphered manuscript that still carries his name. His Pisces Moon lived in the realm of mystery and imagination, a psyche tuned to the uncrackable and the sacred, drawn to old ciphers and centuries-old secrets. That watery, dreaming Moon is why the enigma he uncovered feels so fitting. He remained, to the end, a keeper of unsolved things.
