2026 Nepal Floods

The 2026 Nepal Floods were a catastrophe, not a person, and they are read here as an event chart, soberly and with respect for the dead. On the morning of the twenty-sixth of August, 2026, a chain of flash floods tore through the Gyirong border checkpoint and swept a seventy-two kilometre stretch of the Trishuli River. The trigger is thought to have been a glacier collapse on Langtang Lirung in the Himalayas, which set off a tremor of magnitude 5.2 registered by seismometers worldwide. At least 1,010 people were confirmed dead in Nepal with 3,916 missing, and further losses in Tibet; some victims were carried 240 kilometres into India. The event chart carries a Virgo Sun and Virgo rising, the sign of the body, of health, of the fragile daily fabric of ordinary lives, all of it overwhelmed. Its Sun falls in the twelfth house, the house of dissolution, loss and the waters of the collective unconscious, a sobering signature for a disaster made of water. The Aquarius Moon in the fifth speaks to the sudden wave that erases what was built, and to a grief shared across whole communities. A chart maps the moment; it never lessens the loss. May the missing be found and the mourned be remembered.
