David Copperfield

David Copperfield, born David Seth Kotkin in September 1956, turned the ancient art of illusion into something closer to poetry, becoming, by any honest measure, the most commercially successful magician the world has known. His Sun sits in Virgo, the sign of the maiden and the craftsman, and this is the whole secret of him: he does not shine through mere spectacle but through devotion to the work, through detail perfected until it looks effortless. Virgo is the jack of all arts who insists on becoming master of each, and Copperfield polished his craft over four decades into twenty-one Emmys, eleven Guinness records and a French knighthood. That Sun falls in the twelfth house, the murky, oceanic realm of the unseen and the impossible, which is a fitting home for a man who made a Learjet, a dining car and the Statue of Liberty vanish, who walked through the Great Wall and flew above a stage. His Moon in Aquarius gives the mind of the crazy genius, the out-of-the-box wave that dissolves what we thought was solid so something new can rise. Placed in the fifth house of creativity, his imagination truly became his beloved baby. He shines by making us believe.
