Anton Chekhov

Anton Chekhov taught literature how to whisper. A Russian physician who once called medicine his lawful wife and literature his mistress, he became one of the greatest short-story writers and playwrights who ever lived, a founding figure of modern theatre alongside Ibsen and Strindberg. His four dramatic masterpieces, The Seagull, Uncle Vanya, Three Sisters and The Cherry Orchard, replaced conventional action with a haunting theatre of mood and a life submerged beneath the words. He insisted the artist's task was to ask questions, never to answer them.

His Sun in Aquarius shone not on a solo throne but for the collective, the visionary, futuristic, humane mind that reshapes society rather than merely decorating it. That Sun sits in the fifth house, the Sun's own creative home, a signature of pure artistic self-expression, and it makes sense that a doctor should pour such radiance into stories and plays. His Aries Moon gave him a restless, driven, doer's interior beneath the gentle surface, and his Libra Ascendant lent the balanced, fair, symmetrical mask of a man who weighed both sides of every human heart. He died young in 1904, at forty-four, yet reshaped the stage forever.
