Charles Darwin

Charles Darwin, born on the twelfth of February, 1809, in England, gave humanity one of its truest and most unsettling gifts: the understanding that all living things descend, through natural selection, from a shared ancestor. He was the naturalist who neglected his medical studies to chase marine creatures, then sailed five years aboard HMS Beagle from 1831, returning with the fossils and observations that would slowly ripen into On the Origin of Species in 1859.
