Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey was built to belong to the masses, and her Sun in Aquarius tells you why: this is the ego that shines not on a solitary throne but through and for the collective, the humanitarian visionary whose choices can change the lives of millions. That Sun sits in her second house of values and resources, so she made her worth tangible, rising from poverty in rural Mississippi to become the richest African-American of the twentieth century and once the world's only black woman billionaire. Money came to her, but so did the deeper Aquarian work of lifting the whole tribe.

Her Moon and her Ascendant both fall in Sagittarius, a doubling of the Jupiterian spirit: the jolly, larger-than-life explorer and preacher-philosopher whose warmth changes the atmosphere of any room she enters. This is the Moon of the teacher whose mind connects with a global mass, and connect it did. The Oprah Winfrey Show ran for twenty-five years from 1986, reinventing itself around books, self-improvement, and spirituality, creating an intimate, confessional new language of television. That Sagittarian mask, freedom-loving and generous, met the world with a smile the world trusted. She philosophised, she uplifted, and she gave the whole planet somewhere new to go.
