There was a tenderness at the centre of all that thunder. , born on the twentieth of July, 1964, carried a Cancer Sun, the most emotional light in the zodiac, the father placed in the sign of the mother, here to shine as a nurturer regardless of gender. The crab lives outside its shell and then retreats within, and you can hear both movements in his voice: the huge exposed heart, then the guarding of something soft and squishy inside. He gave grunge its aching soul as the frontman and primary lyricist of Soundgarden and Audioslave, founded Temple of the Dog to mourn a lost friend, and stretched a nearly four-octave range across four solo albums and a Bond theme. His Sagittarius Moon explains the other current in him: the seeker whose peace of mind lived on the open road, the born philosopher happiest wandering toward God, the universe, distant lands and deep talk. That freedom-loving Moon can be the light of any room, yet it also finds it hard to stay when the going gets truly tough. He struggled with depression across his life, and left it in May 2017. Three Grammys, a Hall of Fame induction, and a heart that could soar and break in the same breath.
