Christiaan Huygens

Christiaan Huygens was a pioneer among pioneers, and the sky agreed: his Sun sat exalted in Aries, the double leader who gets in the saddle and marks the frontier no one has crossed. He was first at almost everything he touched. He derived centrifugal force a decade before Newton, drew up the wave theory of light that Fresnel would later vindicate, and turned his lenses on Saturn to discover its moon Titan and correctly read its rings as "a thin, flat ring, nowhere touching."

That Aries Sun shone in the second house of worth and substance, so his genius built lasting, tangible foundations: the pendulum clock he invented and patented in 1657, the most accurate timekeeper for nearly three hundred years. Fitting, then, that both his Moon and his Ascendant fell in Saturn-ruled Capricorn, the old soul, the Lord of Time, the child who grows up early into stoic discipline. He wore the mask of the patient master and felt time ticking in his bones; his twelfth-house Capricorn Moon poured that gravity inward, toward the unseen and unobservable. He built the instrument that measured eternity, then measured the heavens with it.
