Jim Simons

Jim Simons was the rarest of creatures: a world-class mathematician who became the greatest investor Wall Street has ever known. His Sun in Taurus tells you exactly why. Taurus is the bull, the earthy Venusian pillar of the chart, the archetype born with the genes to put a price on things and to build a foundation that will not move. Simons did precisely that, first as a geometer who co-created the Chern-Simons form and helped give string theory its language, and then, from 1982, as the founder of Renaissance Technologies, whose Medallion Fund turned pattern recognition into the most successful trading record in history. The patient, stubborn, value-weighing Taurean genius, worth some thirty-one billion dollars at his death in 2024.

Yet his Moon swam in Pisces, the sponge, the mystic, the ultimate empath whose imagination reaches toward the source. That is the soul behind the equations, the man who saw hidden order in noise, and it flowered most in his giving: with his wife Marilyn he founded the Simons Foundation, pouring fortunes into mathematics and fundamental science. An earthbound bull with a Piscean heart, honoured by an asteroid bearing his name.
