Clark Gable

Clark Gable was crowned the King of Hollywood, and there is a chart reason the title fit him like a tailored suit. His Sun sits in the first house, the rawest, most uncensored throne the Sun can hold: here he is the sun god himself, the star who shines simply by being seen, who does not have to try too hard because the world holds his hand and pushes him onto the stage. Across more than sixty films and thirty years as a leading man, that is exactly what happened; he landed on the box-office charts sixteen times and the audience simply wanted to look at him. His Sun sign is Aquarius, though, so the shine was never quite the solo Leo throne; it was charisma offered to the collective, the everyman hero the whole tribe could claim. Beneath that Capricorn Ascendant, the stoic old-soul mask of the boss, ran a Moon in Cancer, the double-whammy Moon at its own home, the deeply feeling, nostalgic heart. Set in the sixth house of daily work, that tender Moon poured itself into the unglamorous craft of showing up. He died at fifty-nine, and gave us one final aging cowboy in The Misfits.
