Coco Chanel

Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel rebuilt what a woman could wear, and her chart carries the lion's certainty that such a revolution demands. Born in France in 1883, she owned a Leo Sun, the born king of the castle at full strength: charismatic, magnetic, an innate brand who could not enter a room unnoticed and who turned that shine into an empire. After the First World War she swept away the corseted silhouette and gave women a sporty, elegant ease that was simpler, cheaper and freer, extending her eye into jewellery, handbags, the interlocked-CC monogram and the immortal Chanel No. 5. Her Leo Sun sits in the eighth house of transformation and buried money, the phoenix stage, fitting for a self-made survivor who rose from obscurity and understood power. Her Pisces Moon supplied the empath's dreaming imagination behind the aesthetic, and it falls in the second house of worth, where emotion and self-value fuse with what one earns. A Sagittarius Ascendant gave her the larger-than-life explorer's mask. Yet her story darkens: during the occupation she collaborated with Nazi intelligence, escaping charges only through Churchill's intervention. A chart describes gifts and temperament; it never excuses that choice.
