Jack Welch

Jack Welch was a chemical engineer who became the most talked-about executive of his era, ruling General Electric as Chairman and CEO from 1981 to 2001. Under his hand the company's market value swelled from twelve billion dollars to more than four hundred billion, and he pushed GE out of pure manufacturing into finance and media. He was as famous for his method as his results: the "rank and yank" system that fired the bottom ten percent every year, aggressive cost-cutting, and a relentless focus on the number.

His Sun in Scorpio is the eagle at the core, power exercised through the strategic mind, a man who could read people at a glance and thrive on transformation, death and rebirth of whole business units. That Sun sits at the very top of the chart in the tenth house, the Sun at noon on the throne of career, a signature of natural command and unavoidable public visibility. His Virgo Moon fed on usefulness, precision and the meticulous scorecard. His Capricorn Ascendant was the mask of the patient boss, the old soul born already in charge. Admired and criticised in equal measure, he was built, chart and all, to run the machine.
