Machine Gun Kelly

There is a restless shapeshifter in Machine Gun Kelly, born Colson Baker in the spring of 1990, and the chart tells you why the man refuses to sit still inside any one genre. His Sun rises in Taurus, the earthy, Venusian bull, the pillar and foundation of the chart, and here it shines from the twelfth house, that unknowable oceanic room of spirit and dissolution. That is a rare blend: the connoisseur who knows the true worth of a thing, yet whose hero-light burns in the murky, psychic house where the ego half dissolves. It reads in the arc of his work, from the mixtapes and Bad Boy signing through the rap of Lace Up and Bloom, then the hard swerve into pop-punk with Tickets to My Downfall, a number one and the only rock album to top the chart that year. His Moon in Pisces is the sponge, the ultimate empath, the divine-level imagination that feeds the songwriting and just as easily invites the escapism this water sign must guard against. And Gemini rises as his mask, the quicksilver messenger walking down the street as jack of all arts: talkative, changeable, forever on the move, taking it from here and delivering it there.
