Andrew Jackson

Andrew Jackson, seventh President of the United States, was a frontier lawyer and general whose legacy is inseparable from grievous harm. He owned hundreds of enslaved people at his Hermitage plantation, and in 1830 he signed the Indian Removal Act, a policy described as ethnic cleansing that forced tens of thousands of Native Americans from their homelands and caused thousands of deaths.
