Alexander Graham Bell

Alexander Graham Bell was, at his core, a man who devoted his life to sound, to hearing and to bridging the silences between people. His chart sings that vocation. His Sun in Pisces is the old-soul luminary of the most compassionate sign, the empath who shines through service, through feeling the human condition as if it were his own. That Sun sat in the twelfth house itself, the unknowable realm of the invisible, where the ego dissolves into something larger. With a deaf mother and a deaf wife, and a family steeped in elocution and speech, Bell poured his Piscean sensitivity into hearing devices and, on the way, into the first practical telephone, patented in 1876.

His Moon in Virgo grounds all that oceanic feeling in meticulous, patient craft, the psyche that finds peace through being useful, precise and of service. It fell in the seventh house of partnership, so his emotional life and his work alike were bound up in others whose needs he could intuit. Pisces also rising gave him the gentle, dreaming mask of the mystic. From that tender soul came inventions in telecommunications, hydrofoils and flight, and the empath who could not bear a telephone in his own study nonetheless gave the world a voice.
