Beatrix Potter

Beatrix Potter is one of those rare souls who turned a private, watchful childhood into a whole small kingdom of animals that the world now knows by heart. With her Sun in Leo, she carried the golden, creative heart of the lion: a born entrepreneur and maker of worlds, someone who shone brightest through self-expression and drama on the page. This is the Sun in its own home, at full strength, and you can feel it in the confidence with which she built something of her own. When she self-published The Tale of Peter Rabbit and then, in 1902, saw it reach readers everywhere, she was doing what Leo does best, ruling her own little solar system. Peter Rabbit became the first fictional character patented as a stuffed toy, a stroke of the Leo brand-builder's instinct.

Her Moon in Aquarius tells the quieter, stranger story: an emotional nature fused with something larger than herself. This is the collective psyche, the crazy-genius wave, and it showed in her serious mycology studies and her out-of-the-box independence. Marrying late, at 47, and pouring her fortune into preserving the Lake District for everyone, she loved the tribe, the land, the whole future of it. Warm lion, visionary Moon: she gave it all away, and it endures.
