Jimi Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix was a free spirit who turned the electric guitar into a whole new language, and the chart carries that restless, jovial fire. Born in Seattle in 1942, he picked up the guitar at fifteen, drifted through an Army stint and the chitlin' circuit backing the Isley Brothers and Little Richard, then crossed to England in 1966 where fame arrived like lightning: three UK top-ten hits, Monterey, Woodstock, the number-one album Electric Ladyland. In barely four years he pioneered feedback, fuzz, wah-wah and stereo phasing, and remains widely called the greatest instrumentalist in rock. His Sun in Sagittarius, doubled by a Sagittarius Ascendant, is the Jupiter-ruled wanderer and sage: the barefoot explorer with the signature laugh, the free spirit always on the go, born to shine through boundary-crossing and big-picture vision. That Sun in the eleventh house is the lion-king of the tribe who cannot share a throne, so he founded his own sound, his own movement, his own franchise of feeling. His Cancer Moon in the seventh house is a double-whammy moon goddess, deeply psychic and nurturing, pouring emotion into others through the music. He burned brightly, briefly, and endlessly.
