John Legend

John Legend carries the old soul of a Capricorn Sun, the Saturn-ruled climber whose whole identity organises around craft, reputation and the slow, dependable ascent to the top rung. You can hear that discipline in his path: years of quiet work behind the scenes, playing piano on Lauryn Hill's records and slipping uncredited onto tracks by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, before Get Lifted arrived in 2004 and the awards began to gather. That Sun sits in the twelfth house, the unknowable, oceanic realm of spirit and the collective unconscious, the house of the Christ; fittingly, this is a man who played Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar and turned "Glory" into an anthem, whose voice seems to come from somewhere behind the veil.

His Moon in Sagittarius seeks peace of mind through freedom, expansion and warmth, the temperament of a teacher-preacher whose feeling connects with a global mass. Placed in the eleventh house of friends, community and highest wishes, that Moon rises and falls with the collective; his art belongs to the people. The Capricorn Ascendant repeats the mask of the patient boss and the steady hand. Twelve Grammys, an Oscar, an Emmy and a Tony: the rare EGOT, earned rung by rung.
