Queen Victoria

Queen Victoria ruled Britain for sixty-three years, the longest reign of any monarch before her, lending her name to an entire age of industry, empire and moral seriousness. Her chart is a rare and total signature: Sun, Moon and Ascendant all gathered in Gemini, the sign of the messenger, the eternal twin who is always two persons in one. This triple concentration made her quicksilver, endlessly curious, a mind built for words, correspondence and connection, forever holding two sides of every argument at once. Her famously voluminous diaries and letters are pure Gemini, the messenger moving information from one hand to the next.

All three luminaries sit in the 12th house, the unknowable house of spirit, seclusion and the collective unconscious, where the self dissolves into something larger and more private. This is the signature of a soul turned inward, and it speaks powerfully to her long withdrawal into deep mourning after Prince Albert died in 1861, years of seclusion that nearly cost the monarchy its standing. The 12th-house Moon carries a psychic, almost otherworldly detachment. Curious, communicative and yet profoundly hidden, she became a national icon while remaining, in the truest Gemini sense, unknowable even to those closest to her.
