Agatha Christie

The Agatha Christie we know, Queen of Crime and the best-selling novelist who ever lived, is written across her chart. Her Sun in Virgo is the vitality that shines not through limelight but through meticulous craft, the analytical mind with its perfect memory and hunger to get every detail right. That solar fire falls in the eighth house, the Scorpionic realm of death, secrets and buried things, where one is meant to illuminate the darkest corners and know precisely where the bodies lie. Small wonder her sixty-six detective novels turned murder into a fine art, or that her wartime service in hospital dispensaries gave her a working knowledge of the poisons her plots would use.

Her Moon in Libra is a Venusian, beautifully fair-minded psyche, drawn to balance, symmetry and the satisfying restoration of justice that every Poirot and Marple case delivers. It sits in the ninth house of foreign horizons, and her years on Middle Eastern digs beside the archaeologist Max Mallowan fed that far-travelling mind. Sagittarius rising gave her the explorer's mask, the wandering optimist forever seeking new ground. From Torquay to global fame, from The Mysterious Affair at Styles (1920) to The Mousetrap, Christie shone by making the human capacity for darkness legible, and finally, solvable.
