Bettie Page

Bettie Page became one of the most enduring images of the twentieth century, the "Queen of Pinups" whose jet-black hair, blue eyes and trademark bangs still shape artists and fashion generations later. Her Sun in Taurus is the earthy, deeply Venusian pillar, the sign that shines through the five senses, through beauty and sensuality and a grounded love of the physical world. It is fitting for a woman who, through the 1950s, posed for dozens of photographers and became one of the earliest Playmates, Miss January 1955, an icon Hugh Hefner said had a tremendous impact on society's taste and sexuality. This Taurus Sun sits in her second house of value and self-worth, where identity is built on what one is worth from within.

Yet the private Bettie was ruled by water. Her Moon in Cancer is the double-whammy moon at home, the mother-goddess archetype, notoriously psychic and profoundly sensitive, seated at the very bottom of her chart in the fourth house, where peace of mind lives or dies with home and roots. Her Pisces Ascendant wore the mystic's compassionate, dreamy mask. That same tender wiring turned toward faith when she converted to evangelical Christianity in 1959, and it later carried the weight of the depression and illness that shadowed her final decades.
