Donald Sutherland

Donald Sutherland was one of the great character actors of the screen, a Canadian whose six-decade career made him, as many say, the finest actor never nominated for a competitive Academy Award, though he was honoured at last in 2017. His Sun sits in Cancer, the father placed in the sign of the mother, a very emotional Sun here to shine as a nurturer and protector, guarding a soft, deeply feeling person inside a hard crab's shell. And that Sun sits at the very top of his chart, in the tenth house, the Sun at noon, on some sort of throne where everyone else circles like ants: a karmic blessing of natural fame and public visibility. He earned it, rising through "The Dirty Dozen," "M*A*S*H" and "Klute," then "Ordinary People," "JFK," and later the chilling President Snow of "The Hunger Games." His Moon in Aquarius, in the fifth house of creativity and children, gave a detached, revolutionary psyche fused with the tribe of humanity, yet finding its peace of mind in what he created and loved. His Virgo Ascendant lent the mask of the precise, self-critical craftsman who serves through his instrument. Fittingly, his creations grew up: Kiefer, Rossif and Angus, all actors too.
