Jimmy Lai

Jimmy Lai has the restless, freedom-loving fire of a Sagittarian Sun: Jupiter-ruled, big-picture, born to shine through boldness, movement and an almost reckless honesty. Sagittarius is the sign of the free spirit who cannot be fenced in, and Jimmy lived it from the start, arriving in Hong Kong at twelve as a stowaway with nothing, working a garment factory floor, then building an empire. First came Giordano, the clothing retailer that spread across Asia; then, in 1995, Apple Daily, the newspaper whose sensational headlines and fearless pro-democracy voice made it a force. The Sagittarian gift is directness taken to its edge: he said the unsayable about the Chinese Communist Party and never softened it, the sage who speaks his truth whatever the cost.

His Moon in Libra is the beautiful, Venusian heart beneath the fire, a psyche that finds its peace in fairness and the golden rule, tuned to justice for others. Where a lesser Sagittarian might have run when the going got tough, Jimmy stayed. Arrested under the national security law in 2020 and held in solitary confinement, he became a symbol of resistance, the free spirit who chose principle over freedom itself.
