Lee Sun-kyun (이선균; March 2, 1975 – December 27, 2023) was a South Korean actor best known internationally for his role in Bong Joon-ho's Academy Award–winning film Parasite (2019), for which he won a Screen Actors Guild Award along with his castmates.
Early Life and Education
Lee Sun-kyun was born on March 2, 1975, in Seoul, South Korea. He pursued his education at the Korea National University of Arts, where he majored in acting and graduated in 1994.
Career
Lee debuted as an actor in 2000, starring in TV dramas and musical theatre. He gained widespread recognition for his role in Parasite (2019), which brought him international acclaim. In addition to his film career, Lee appeared in various television series, including the popular drama Pasta (2010).
Personal Life
Lee Sun-kyun married actress Jeon Hye-jin on May 23, 2009. The couple has two sons, born in 2009 and 2011.
Death
Lee Sun-kyun passed away on December 27, 2023, in Seoul, South Korea. His death was reported as a suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning.
