Nasir al-Din al-Tusi

Nasir al-Din al-Tusi was one of those rare old souls who seem to carry the whole library of the cosmos inside them. Born in Tus in the Persian northeast in 1201, he lost his father young yet honoured that father's dying wish by chasing knowledge across the medieval Islamic world: the Quran, jurisprudence, logic, medicine, philosophy, and above all the stars. He is often called the father of trigonometry as a discipline in its own right, drew up astonishingly accurate tables of planetary motion, boldly critiqued Ptolemy, and left ideas that may have quietly rippled forward to Copernicus himself.

His Sun shines in Pisces, the twelfth and wisest of the signs, the archetype that gathers all the others into one mystical vessel. That Piscean current runs through everything he touched: the philosopher-mystic writing on the spiritual interpretation of sacred law, the empath drawn to Sufism and the unseen. His Moon in Leo gave that dreamy Pisces a warm, kingly heart, a proud creative flame that dared to lead and to author boldly. Even amid Mongol upheaval, he built observatories and ethics. A giver of light who still teaches us.
