Nowruz 2025

Nowruz is the Persian New Year, a festival of the spring equinox with roots more than three thousand years deep in Zoroastrian soil, celebrated today across West and Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Balkans and South Asia, and recognised by the United Nations as an International Day. Its very definition is astronomical: the ancient astronomer Tusi held that the new year begins on the day the Sun enters Aries before noon. Fire and water rituals, dancing, gifts and poetry mark the turning of the season and the renewal of life.

How fitting, then, that the 2025 chart opens with the Sun in Aries, the pioneer-warrior at their peak, the exalted self-starter who casts light and leaves a lasting mark. This is the astrology of beginnings itself, the first sign, the first day of spring. That Sun falls in the ninth house of philosophy, higher learning and global horizons, the true global citizen, mirroring a feast now shared by many peoples. The Moon in Sagittarius in the fifth adds Jupiterian freedom, optimism and creative joy, the mood that changes the atmosphere of any room it enters. Cancer rises, the nurturing lunar mask. A luminous, hopeful sky for the oldest of new years.
