Edward Snowden

Edward Snowden is, in the truest sense, a messenger. Born under a Gemini Sun, that luminary sits in his first house, the sun god itself walking down the street as the quicksilver twin: born to be seen, born to move information from one place to another. This is the Sun of the journalist and the whistleblower, always two persons in one, always understanding both sides of an argument. With Gemini also rising, the mask he meets the world in matches the vitality beneath it, mercury-ruled, curious, forever on the move.

Yet the deeper story lives in his Scorpio Moon in the sixth house. Here the emotional life becomes an inner volcano, calm on the surface and transformative below, drawn to secrets and to the reading of hidden things. In the sixth house, peace of mind is bound to service and to conscience, and Scorpio cannot meet anything halfway; it is all or nothing.

In 2013 he leaked classified NSA documents exposing mass surveillance, then fled to Hong Kong and later Moscow, where he now holds Russian citizenship. His 2019 memoir is titled Permanent Record. Phoenix and messenger both, he chose disclosure over silence.
