Pablo Escobar

Pablo Escobar was a Colombian drug lord and narcoterrorist, founder and sole leader of the Medellin Cartel, whose cocaine empire made him the wealthiest criminal in history and made Colombia the murder capital of the world. Born in Rionegro in 1949, he moved from petty fraud and car theft into smuggling, built the cartel in 1976, and by the 1980s was shipping seventy to eighty tons of cocaine a month into the United States. His name is attached to the murders of police, judges and politicians and to the DAS Building and Avianca Flight 203 bombings. He was killed in Medellin in 1993.
